Critical Analysis - Conflict
A conflict is a struggle between opposing forces.
In an external conflict, a character struggles against an outside force.
In an Internal conflict, a character is in conflict with himself or herself.

An autobiography can have more than one conflict, with some conflicts more important than others. The most significant conflicts often are resolved during critical moments in the plot.
